Shivapur National Park

Introduction:
It was previously known as Shivapuri Conservation Area and Wildlife Reserve. It was declared as National Park of February 18, 2002.

Shivapuri The park is situated in central part Nepal and covers an area of 144.78 sq.km. The park's name is derived from the Shivapuri Hill which is 2,732 m. above sea level. There are several Buddhist and Hindus temples, monasteries and Stupas within the area. The park is the main entrance to the trekking routes to Gosainkunda, Helambu, Nagarkot and the Langtang National Park.

Vegetation and Habitat:
The vegetation is composed of pine, oak, rhododendron, bamboo, and thick secondary scrub. There are 129 species of Mushroom in the park.

Wildlife:
The wildlife found in the national park includes Himalayan Black Bear, Leopard, Jungle Cat, and Rhesus Macaques. The spotted Deer, Wild Boar, Indian Porcupine, Common Leopard, Scaly Ant-eater are also common in the reserve.

Climate:
The park has a temperate climate that is pleasant most of year. Between October and March it can become quite cold at night with occasional snow and heavy frosts. From April the monsoon starts and lasts until September. The park is a fog-free zone during winter.
